The 2024 EXCELSIOR CHRISTKINDLSMARKT, one of the Twin Cities’ most remarkable and magical holiday events, is rapidly approaching. We have singers, dancers, reindeer and prancers, Father Christmas, Christkindl, bratwurst, savory strudel and sweets. Let us tell you why this three-day outdoor German holiday market, held Friday through Sunday, November 29,30, Dec.1, in the lively and always lovely village of Excelsior, merits your attention. There is absolutely nothing else like it in the area.
Our Christkindlsmarkt is modeled after the traditional holiday open-air markets of Germany and influenced by the wildly popular German American Christmas market in Chicago. Children, parents and grandparents love this special experience in an outdoor market filled with delicious scents, treats, gifts and music.
Children of all ages flock to see the live Alaskan reindeer, and everyone has a grand time visiting the gentle, fluffy Alpacas. Father Christmas dressed in a velvet and white fur robe, the Christkindl dressed in gold, open the festival Friday morning, replete with, carolers, elves, angels, Reindeer, a Town Crier and the Spielmannszug Royal Court, the Minnetonka High School Choir.
Activities throughout the three days include:
· the German St. Martin Children’s Lantern program Saturday evening at 4:30 in which children participate and dress up in costumes such as Christkindl, St. Nicolas, Elves, Krampus, Mrs. Christmas, fairies, Frosty, the Grinch and others to compete for the best costume prizes.
· The NorthPole Trolley will be running all three days from noon until 4pm.
· Entertainers include Carolers, the German Flemmingfold, Balloon Artist, Storytellers, a Magic
· Show, and Face painters.
· Artisans and food vendors who specialize in the art, crafts and tastes of Germany add to the festive atmosphere.
· Excelsior Brewing Co. provides the Biergarten an important part of the festival.
· The Coalition provides their delicious Gluhwein, a warm treat for the adults, and Kindercocoa a warm drink for the childlike.
· Many Volunteers join us who are residents and friendly, enthusiastic & informative folks.
